08/09/2023 09:44
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) recently had a meeting with the Da Nang City People’s Committee to discuss the draft National logistics service development strategy until 2035 with a vision to 2045.

Specific mechanisms, policies needed

According to Director of the Da Nang City’s Department of Industry and Trade Le Thi Kim Phuong, Da Nang targets to become an attractive logistics center of the country’s central key economic region and also of the Southeast Asia, forming a logistics service supply chain in this region and in the East-West economic corridor.

To realize this target, Da Nang requested the MoIT to support the city in getting the approval from the National Assembly in piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies, including the establishment of a non-tariff zone for trade and services, a free trade zone, and a non-tariff zone for production and export; investor selection for logistics infrastructure projects.

The city also proposed acceleration of the investment progress of the Cam Lo - Lao Bao expressway to directly link Lien Chieu wharf with the East-West economic corridor through Lao Bao border gate; and mechanisms to encourage large Vietnamese corporations to expand investment in localities along the East-West economic corridor.

Representatives of the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue provinces agreed with proposals of Da Nang City and also requested the MoIT to complete infrastructure and improve the efficiency of logistics services on the East-West Economic Corridor and the East-West Economic Corridor 2.

Enhancing regional connectivity

According to Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People’s Committee Ky Minh. In Da Nang, the problem that Da Nang, Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue logistics services are facing is “the demand” or the source of goods, which must come from Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar.

The development of Vietnam’s logistics services strategy until 2035, with a vision to 2045 should include the establishment of a non-tariff zone and a free trade zone and it needs to be legalized to boost the development and increase competitiveness of logistics services in the central region.

To conclude the meeting, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan highly appreciated the information, suggestions, proposals and recommendations from Da Nang City, Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue provinces to complete this strategic project.

He said the MoIT will visit the region, learn about specific features as well as logistics development orientation of each locality, especially the regional linkages in each zone.

By 2025, plannings of localities, as well as the national and regional plannings; and strategic plannings of sectors and fields will have also been completed. Therefore, by then, the logistics service development strategy will have been integrated into these plannings.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan added that the development of Vietnam’s logistics services strategy until 2035, with a vision to 2045 will also add new trends like environmental issues, green logistics, digitization and digital transformation, which increase the competitiveness of logistics services. He expects that localities will provide more specific information and data on their actual local logistics service development in order to formulate the most practical logistics service development strategy.
